RESCUE, REHABILITATE, RELEASE
OUR PURPOSE
Ensuring native wildlife thrive in a rapidly changing world.
OUR VISION
For future generations to experience Australian native wildlife in their natural habitats.

WHY ARE WE HERE?
Six years ago, we noticed a gap in wildlife support in Albany, Western Australia and the surrounding areas.
We formed Healing Hands Wildlife Care (Great Southern WA) Inc (HHWC), navigating the labyrinth of compliance, becoming a registered charity, and developing a 24-hour helpline – all while reinventing the wheel repeatedly. We’ve grown in knowledge and organisational skills, driven by passion and humour. Our strengths, talents and experience are focused on the wildlife that we care for.
WHY DO WE DO IT?
We are here to support and protect our unique wildlife; whether it’s paperwork or possums, we’re here to make a difference. And yes, we’ll probably reinvent the wheel a few more times because that’s how we grow at HHWC.
We are noticing a significant increase in the number of wildlife in distress, driven by factors such as habitat loss, urbanisation, and human-wildlife conflicts.
We are hopeful that in some small way we can enable future generations to experience Australian native wildlife in their natural habitat one step at a time by supporting and sustaining native wildlife to thrive in our rapidly changing world.
We as an organisation are supportive, respectful, professional and resilient.

CORE VALUES
Compassion. We are committed to providing the highest standard of care to wildlife in need, treating them with kindness and respect. We acknowledge the natural life of the animal we care for and ensure our efforts are focused on rehabilitation that enables them to return of their natural habitat.
Integrity. We operate with transparency, clarity and accountability. We ensure our actions align with our ethical principles. We do this by maintaining a supportive environment where all members feel valued and heard.
Collaboration. We believe in working together with other wildlife organisations so we can achieve a better outcome for wildlife. Working cooperatively with other wildlife groups increases our knowledge base, and allows us to provide care to more wildlife species.
Sustainability. We are dedicated in our role to protect the environment and ensure that our practice supports long-term ecological balance.
Support. We recognise the emotional toll that comes with caring for wildlife, especially when loss occurs and things don’t go as we had hoped. We support each other through these challenges, fostering a compassionate and resilient group of wildlife rehabilitators.

WILDLIFE WE CARE FOR
We care for all species of wildlife found in our region, with the exception of snakes and seabirds. We will provide contact numbers to support the wildlife outside of our licence.
OUR 24 HOUR HELPLINE
Our 24 hour helpline supports the public when they encounter injured or orphaned wildlife. Having rehabilitators across the Great Southern allows us to promptly respond to wildlife in distress.
